Halluciongens

WHAT ARE THEY

LSD & PCP

Hallucinogens are strong mood-changing drugs with unpredictable psychological effects. LSD, or "acid," is sold as tablets, capsules, liquid, or an absorbent paper. PCP is illegaly manufactured as tablets, capsules, or colored powder and can be snorted, smoked, or eaten. OTHER HALLUCINOGENS can come in many forms, including plants and cough suppressants.

The effects of hallucinogens differ greatly from person to person, time to time, and from drug to drug. This is mainly due to the significant differences in strength, amount, and chemical makeup of active ingredients. Because of their unpredictable nature, the use of hallucinogens can be particularly dangerous. People who abuse PCP for long periods of time report memory loss, difficulties with speech and thinking, depression, and weight loss. These symptoms can persist up to a year after stopping PCP abuse. LSD has an unusual "echo." Many users have flashbacks--sudden repetitions of their LSD experiences--days or months after they stop using the drug. Hallucinogen-related deaths(with the possible exception of MDMA & PCP) often result from accidental injury/suicide from the uncontrolled actions, and emotions caused by intoxication.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROSES

LSD is manufactured from lysergic acid, which is found in ergot, a fungus that grows on rye and other grains.

Originally manufactured as an IV anesthetic in 1950, PCP use in humans was discontinued because of its intensely negative psychological effects.

LSD users can also experience flashbacks, which are when the original drug's effects suddently reoccur up to a year after the initial use. Because flashbacks can occur without warning, they can cause significant distress or impairment, especially if this occurs in an uncomfortable/dangerous setting such as at work, school, or while driving.

Some LSD users experience severe, terrifying thoughts & feelings of despair, fear of losing control, or fear of insanity and death while using LSD.

PCP is addictive-its repeated abuse can lead to craving and compulsive PCP-seeking behavior, despite severe adverse consequences.
